Summer Reading for all ages begins June 6

Kids: Sign up to read for 500 minutes during June and July (toddlers can sign up to do an activity sheet instead) and get a free book, free pizza, and more! Any age up through fifth grade can participate. Kids can also join us every week starting Monday, June 6, with the all-ages ice cream party! Preschoolers will attend at 10:30 am on Tuesdays; grades 3-5 on Wednesdays; and grades K-2 on Thursdays. Look for visits from the zoo (with real animals!), games, and more!

Summer Reading BINGO for teens!

This summer, teens can play BINGO to win! All who have just finished grades 6-12 are welcome to participate in the challenge. To win, you just need to make one BINGO (do five activities from the BINGO card in a row, a column, or a diagonal). Winners receive a $5.00 certificate to Tano’s and an invitation to the end-of-summer Pizza Party! The BINGO challenge begins on June 6 and runs through July 29.

Free Art Classes

The library will host a series of free acrylic painting classes for adults, sponsored by the Swanton Chamber of Commerce through a grant from the Ohio Arts Council. These beginning-level classes, one for adults and one for children and teens, are taught by award-winning artist Nora Sallows. Both classes are limited to 20 participants.

Library closed April 15 for staff training

Swanton Library will be closed on Friday, April 15 for the Ohio Library Council (OLC) Northwest Chapter Conference. The Conference is held at the Radisson Hotel at the University of Toledo and is a day filled with programs developed by OLC’s divisions, committees, and individual members. The areas of focus are on “always-needed” training topics and use peer-to-peer instruction. The library’s Director, Janelle Thomas, served on the Chapter Conference Board this year, along with other local and state professionals.

Babysitting Clinic for 11 and up at SPL in April

Fulton County Health Center will hold a Babysitting Clinic from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 30, at Swanton Library. Participants must be at least 11-years-old to attend. Learn to handle emergencies such as choking, burns, and more, to become a more effective and competent babysitter. Those who complete the course will be certified in babysitting through Fulton County Health Center (does not include CPR).

Cabin Fever Used Book & Media Sale - Donations Accepted Now!

The Friends of the Swanton Public Library will hold a Used Book/Media sale at the library next month! If you have items to donate, please drop them off at the library during open hours. Items accepted include: fiction and nonfiction books in good condition, coffee table books, VHS tapes, and DVDs and CDs in playable condition (no home copies). Please, no damaged books, computer manuals, encyclopedias, condensed books, magazines, or textbooks.
